One of growth’s various definitions includes “the process of developing or maturing physically, mentally, or spiritually”, and a definition of renewal is “the replacing or repair of something that is worn out, run-down, or broken”. We often hear these two words in conjunction with one another, especially around this time of year. The challenge of growing into our best selves pushes us to reach that next level in our goals.
Although these definitions of these two words resonate the most with me, they can mean different things for different people. What remains constant is the benefits of growing and renewing bits and pieces of our lives in order to become our best selves.

The challenge of growing, in many instances, can be intimidating, scary, and painful. What is important to remember is that it is a mandatory piece of transforming into who we want to be. Growing socially, intellectually, spiritually, within relationships, or even as an individual is an amazing thing and something that we all seek to experience at some point in our lives.

Yes, you will face challenges during the journey, but the beauty lies within the outcome and having the ability to look back on your growth with pride and amazement. Growth…scary? Sure. Beautiful and fulfilling? Absolutely.
Renewal can be misunderstood as getting rid of the old and bringing in the new. But that understanding doesn’t have to apply to all contexts or situations. What sticks out the most to me in the definition, however, is the concept of repair.
We have the ability to repair pieces of our lives (or ourselves) that aren’t reaching their full potential. We all have the power to repair and strengthen things that might not be where we want them to be, and that to me is a beautiful process.

As spring is kicking into full swing, don’t feel pressured to go through the growth and renewal process. Growth and renewal, although being things we as humans are drawn to and strive to achieve, happen at different points for different people. Not ready to develop and repair fully yet? That’s okay. Your season will come, and the outcome will be well worth the work, and trials and tribulations. Just know, you and I are fully capable of growing and renewing, reaching the point of fulfillment. And that is beautiful.
